From the early seventies to today, Korman Fine Jewelry, Diamonds & Watches is an Austin original.
If you lived in Austin in the early 1970s, you probably remember street vendors selling trinkets along ‘the Drag.’ What you may not realize is that a teenaged Korman Fine Jewelry was one of those vendors. As a young entrepreneur, Russell sold African trade beads to passersby, and he made a pretty good living doing so. Eventually he added silver jewelry to his inventory, moved the business to his apartment and then a small storefront when finances allowed. Self-educated and uncompromising in the quality of his merchandise, Russell took an early stand to not artificially inflate prices, just to lower them for ‘sales.’ Over forty years later, Russell’s bohemian beginnings have given way to a thriving family business that sets a very high philanthropic bar for other Austin retailers. Korman Fine Jewelry, Diamonds & Watches is now housed in a gorgeous 6,200 square foot showroom, far from its open-air, African trade bead beginnings.
Russell has always been attuned to his customers’ comfort, so the showroom was designed to put shoppers at ease. Sales Associates have never been paid a commission, so there is no pressure or sales tactics to get in the way of a truly laid back shopping experience. The Korman Family understands that finding just the right piece of jewelry to commemorate a graduation or symbolize an engagement takes time and shouldn’t be fraught with pressure. We also believe that a customer buying a gorgeous $30 sterling silver necklace should be given the same respect and level of service as someone considering a $30,000 Rolex watch. Because customers are treated so well, top manufacturers such as Omega, Breitling, Roberto Coin, Pink Diamond, Sofer Jewelry and Marco Bicego are confident in placing their products at Korman Fine Jewelry, Diamonds.
